About This Call
The Newport Beach Civic Center Invitational Sculpture Exhibition seeks original sculptures for display throughout the 14-acre Civic Center Park. This inaugural exhibition will feature up to ten sculptures installed on predetermined concrete pads and other locations throughout the park, with installation planned for October 2017 and de-installation scheduled for September 2018.
Artists, private collectors, galleries, museums, and non-profit organizations may submit one original artwork for consideration. Applicants must be over 18 years old. Submissions must include: a statement of interest (250 words maximum) addressing why the artwork is appropriate for the site and relevant public art experience; a resume/curriculum vitae (no more than two pages); three images of the artwork (overview and two detail images); an annotated image list with title, date, description (25 words maximum), medium, dimensions, weight, artwork value, and previous exhibition locations; and a preliminary budget including estimated transportation, insurance, and artist honorarium costs. There is no application fee. All submissions must be made online through Call for Entry by July 9, 2017, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
Selected artists will receive an honorarium between $2,500 and $6,000 in exchange for a two-year loan of their artwork. The honorarium covers transportation, structural engineering documents if required, insurance for transport and display, and fees for on-site availability during installation and removal. Artists receive half the honorarium upon signing the contract and the second half after de-installation. Artworks must be made of high-quality materials capable of withstanding coastal Southern California's natural elements for a minimum of two years, be suitable for viewing from all angles, and be appropriate for audiences of all ages. Works selected must remain for the entire duration of the exhibition. An opening reception is scheduled for October 28, 2017. For questions, contact Nicholas Thurkettle at (714) 556-5160 x 14 or [email protected].
