Newport Bayfront Restroom Mural

One mural will be commissioned for the restroom consisting of all four sides of the building and the two privacy walls at each entrance. The artist will supply paint and anti-graffiti varnish finish designed for outdoor mural use in a coastal environment with salt air and high winds. All costs associated with transportation to and accommodation in Newport, Oregon are the responsibility of the artist.

All artwork must be original design and artwork of the artist(s) and suitable for viewing by all ages. The mural must include the following language: "This mural made possible by the City of Newport (logo) and OCCA (logo) through the Public Arts Program 2026". Artists may submit work individually or as part of a team. Any required maintenance is the responsibility of the artist for a term of 5 years. Artists are allowed to submit up to three sketches of their design for consideration.

All artists must be over 18 years old to apply. Entries must be original and may not breach intellectual property, trademarks, brands, or organizational branding. Designs must not include images of sex, violence, drugs, or alcohol and may not be used for advertisement or to promote a business, product, or viewpoint. Designs should reflect Newport's Historic Bay Front (coastal environment, history, fishing, ocean sciences, Coast Guard, etc.) and integrate poetry into the design. Entry fee is $25. Artists will be notified in April 2026, with installation scheduled for Summer 2026.
