About This Call

Martin County FL seeks an artist to create a sculptural element for the Town Center Park at the heart of the 3500-acre Newfield development. The sculpture will reflect Newfield's commitment to community, conservation, agriculture, sustainable development, and traditional neighborhood design. Artists are encouraged to interpret this theme creatively, crafting a story specific to the community's flora, fauna, geography, and environmental/cultural history. The sculpture should serve as a beacon when viewed from a distance and have detail that creates interest up close, with dynamic design elements such as evolving light, material, or shadows.

The Town Center Park is a one-acre space surrounded by restaurants and retail on three sides and Newfield Parkway. The sculpture sits at the intersection of primary pedestrian flow and architectural centerlines, with a runnel from an adjacent water feature surrounding its base. The selected artist will present three preliminary ideas, coordinate with engineers and architects, fabricate the sculpture, and oversee installation. The scope includes design development with three rounds of feedback, coordination with the construction team, fabrication with progress reports, and installation oversight.

The budget for hard costs (materials, fabrication, installation, insurance) is $150,000 but can be flexible for exceptional ideas. Artists must provide their own soft cost estimates for design fees, coordination, and travel. The timeline includes a design process from December 2025 to February 2026, with installation scheduled for Fall 2026. Eligibility is open to artists located within the United States who are available for remote interviews.
