About This Call
Call for Artists - Digital Design for Glass Tiles at the Station Access
Artists must be New Jersey residents living and/or based in Newark, NJ (evidence of Newark residency or proof of art studio rental in Newark required). Artists from Newark's South Ward are highly encouraged to submit. This project seeks completed, 2-dimensional, still artworks in digital format for reproduction onto glass tiles by the Port Authority of NY & NJ glazing contractor. Artists should submit images of previously completed artworks; new designs, tourism-type posters, or draft/idea sketches are not being sought. Selected artists must grant permission to PANYNJ to replicate the selected work(s) on glass tile for installation in the Station Access interior escalator area (approximately 400 square feet). Work will be digitally printed onto glass tiles and may span multiple tiles.
Curatorial themes of interest include: connection of people and places across distances, transnationalism, mapping, and welcoming others to the Newark community. Work that could be interpreted as promotion of political issues or candidates, or that is sexual or violent in nature will not be considered. Works including logos or business signage, moving images, films, animations, or performative work will not be considered.
Selected artists will receive $3,000 in payment for rights to reproduce and use their work. Upon selection and final design approval, artists must complete a contract with PANYNJ and provide ACH payment information within 30 days. Selected artists must work with the project coordination team to ensure final work files are in JPEG or TIFF format, high quality for replication, and appropriate for public display. Submissions must include 1-4 images of previously completed artworks and a brief one-paragraph artist bio. All submissions must be made through callforentry.org; submissions will not be accepted through any other method. Artist notifications will be provided no later than January 9, 2026.
