Newark Liberty Airport Station Access Project: Exterior Mural

Call for Artists to create a painted mural at the Newark Airport Station Access building. The selected artist will work with the Port Authority of NY & NJ team on design revisions, manage the project budget and timeline, and install the approved mural design on the Station Access building using high quality acrylic media and paints on a polytab (mural cloth) surface with UV protectant topcoat.

The mural location is on the exterior of the building with an identified area approximately 14 feet high by 28 feet wide on a flat vertical surface. Curatorial themes include representations of Newark's cultural diversity, iconic representations of people and places in Newark, current everyday activities, Newark's parks and recreation, and Newark's history with emphasis on diversity and representation of Indigenous peoples. The project budget is $150,000. Three finalists will be selected to receive a $1,000 stipend each to cover costs for proposal preparation and presentation.

Eligibility: Artists must be New Jersey residents living and/or based in Newark, NJ (evidence of residency or proof of art studio rental required). Artists from Newark's South Ward are highly encouraged. Artists must be at least 18 years old and legally able to complete a contract with PANYNJ. Employees of the State of New Jersey and PANYNJ are not eligible. Submission deadline: September 28, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Submissions must include a letter of interest (maximum 2 pages), three references from similar projects, minimum 4 to maximum 8 photographs/images of previously completed artworks, optional 1 video sample, and resume/CV.
