About This Call
The School of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts at Texas A&M University announces its inaugural New Work Development Artist Residency program. The School is committed to incubating new works of art in an environment of creative reciprocity between scholars and artists that crosses disciplinary lines. The residency is designed to take advantage of the School's interdisciplinary strengths, including dance science, visualization, performance studies, music performance, music technology, devised theatre, graphic design, photo & video, painting & illustration, sculpture, choreography, virtual production, games, animation, visual computing, and materials-based research.
Artists in Residence will develop a new work or body of works while integrating their work into the life of the School, providing opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in their creative process and engage with faculty and the wider campus community. The residency duration is fifteen weeks (September-November), and the selected artist is expected to be physically present in College Station for at least nine of those fifteen weeks. Artists in Residence will spend 30 hours or more per week developing their work and will engage students and faculty through open studios, open rehearsals, class visits, artist talks, workshops, collaborations, or other forms of curricular and co-curricular integration.
The School provides a $10,000 stipend for living expenses and project materials, on-campus lodging (2 bedroom/1 bath apartment), shared office space and access to PVFA facilities including rehearsal and performance spaces, recording studios, visual art studios, and technology resources, undergraduate and/or graduate student assistance, and visa support for international artists. Applications must include a letter of intent (maximum 1500 words), current CV, draft budget, draft timeline, portfolio of past work, artist website URL, and three references. Applications are due March 15, 2024, and applicants will be notified April 1, 2024. Final acceptance is due April 15, 2024. At the end of the program, the Artist in Residence will publicly present their accomplishments, and future exhibitions and presentations should indicate the work was developed in residence at PVFA.
