New Waves 2020

The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) invites contemporary artists currently residing in Virginia to apply for New Waves 2020, the 25th juried exhibition. This year's juror is Susan Thompson, Associate Curator at the Guggenheim Museum. The exhibition will be on view March 21, 2020 – August 16, 2020, with an opening night reception on March 20th.

Eligible artwork includes all artistic mediums created between 2016-2019. Two-dimensional work must be ready for installation and may not exceed 84 inches in any dimension, including frame, with a maximum weight of 75 lbs. Three-dimensional work cannot be larger than 84 inches including base and must not exceed 75 lbs. Previously created installations are accepted; submissions should be flexible to fit any location within the gallery (outdoor installations cannot be accepted). Video and sound works are limited to 3 entries per application. Art exhibited in previous New Waves exhibitions is not eligible. The entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). Submissions are accepted online only through callforentry.org.

Prizes include Best in Show ($2,000), Second Place ($1,000), Third Place ($500), two Honorable Mentions ($250 each), and People's Choice ($750). MOCA will notify all accepted artists by February 14, 2020. Artists are responsible for delivery and return shipping of their work. MOCA provides insurance for artwork while on premises; artists must provide their own incoming and outgoing shipping insurance.
