About This Call
Floyd Center for the Arts, a nonprofit community arts center located in rural Floyd, VA, invites visual media artists within 150 miles of Floyd to submit artwork for the New River Art Biennial 2023. This is the 17th New River Art Biennial exhibition, which rotates every two years between Floyd Center for the Arts, the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley (FACNRV) in Pulaski, and the Blacksburg Regional Art Association.
Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 years of age or older living within 150 miles of Floyd Center for the Arts. Work must be original and executed within the past two years. All fine arts and fine craft media are accepted, including painting, sculpture, graphics, ceramics, textiles, mixed media, photography, time-based/new media, and installation. Handicrafts and video, audio, and performing works are not accepted. Artists may submit up to three artworks. Entry fee is $40 ($35 for current Floyd Center members). Artwork will be selected by juror Chris Pollins.
Prizes include: Grand Prize $500 (Nadine Allen Memorial Fund), First Award of Excellence $200 (Floyd Center for the Arts), Second Award of Excellence $200 (Blacksburg Regional Arts Association), Third Award of Excellence $200 (Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley), with additional prizes possible. Exhibition dates are October 14 through November 29, 2023, with opening reception on Saturday, October 14, 5-7pm. Application deadline is September 9, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notifications will be sent no later than September 19, 2023. Shipped work must arrive between October 2-6, 2023. In-person drop-off is available October 6-7, 10am-4pm.
