About This Call
Studio Channel Islands invites applications of all art forms to respond to the themes of new beginnings, change and growth. This can be interpreted through performance, video, sound, sculpture, and/or visual artistic expression. The exhibition runs January 4, 2018 – January 26, 2019.
Artists are invited to make a statement about 2019 and what they hope to achieve within the year. The prospectus asks artists to consider the bigger picture, the revolution of our planet around the Sun, and the great movements of time and space through which we must travel to complete the year. What new ideas might ignite a year filled with promise? What transformations might occur to inspire new work? Artists are invited to respond with work that reflects the bigger picture of our community, our nation and our planet.
Categories accepted include 2D, 3D, video, film, performance, and installation. The exhibition does accept video, film, performance art, installation and works requiring an external electrical source. However, artists are required to provide all of their own equipment to show the art piece, including motors, computers, iPad, extension cords, projectors, and headphones. All submissions must be the artist's original work, for sale and never hung before in the Blackboard Gallery. Entry fee: non-members $45, members $35 with Member's code. Work sample requirements: 1-6 total samples (images, audio, and/or video). Juror: Max Presneill. Awards: Juror's Awards for three works with cash prizes of $500 (1st Place), $200 (2nd Place), and $100 (3rd Place). Artist notification date: December 8, 2018. Artwork drop-off: December 18, 2018, 9am-5pm. Latest receive date for shipping: January 2, 2019. Reception: January 5, 2019, 4pm-6pm. Pick-up day: January 29, 2019, 9am-5pm. Artists who are shipping artwork are required to provide a return label.
