New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Volunteer Photographers 2012

The Volunteer Photographer Program is a community outreach project of the Foundation Archive. The mission of the program is to provide documentation of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, including the "internal culture" of Jazz Fest—the food, art, culture and people who attend the festival. The program joins photographers from a variety of backgrounds with the Festival and Archive to provide the unique experience of photographing the world renowned New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Volunteer Photographers must be at least 18 years of age and can apply in one of three categories: Amateur, Student, or Professional. Photographers must be able to manage and edit hundreds or even thousands of digital images and understand that the work is physically demanding. Photographers often walk many miles a day around the Fair Grounds Race Course and are responsible for their own photography gear. Weather conditions vary—rain (with lots of mud) or shine (with lots of dust)—and temperatures can be very hot.

Selected volunteer photographers are responsible for providing the Archive with a CD/DVD of the images taken at the festival along with a complete index of images on the disk. The images are owned by the photographer and may be used to promote the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation for non-commercial and educational purposes. Festival dates are April 27-29 and May 3-6, 2012. The application deadline is December 31, 2011. No more than 150 applications can be accepted. Applicants must submit 6 images.
