About This Call
The New Mexico State Fair is seeking a freestanding exterior contemporary artwork for placement in front of the Fine Arts Building, adjacent to the building entrance. This is a professional commission opportunity open to artists currently residing in New Mexico with experience in public funded commission projects.
The selected artwork must be durable, low maintenance, permanent, suitable for outdoor display, safe for children and adults, and ADA compliant. Artists using innovative concepts and materials are encouraged to apply. The selected artwork may require certification by a licensed structural engineer and review by a professional Fine Art Conservator at the selected artist's expense. A total of $53,770 is available for this project, covering all fees and expenses including materials, equipment, labor, insurance, taxes, travel, installation, project plaque, and documentation.
Submission requirements include a letter of interest or statement of qualifications, current resume demonstrating relevant work experience, ten images of previously completed work, and an annotated image list with title, media, dimensions, year of completion, and project details. Three to five finalists will be invited to submit a formal proposal and maquette, and will receive a $1,000 honorarium plus travel stipend. Finalists must participate in a site visit and personal presentation. The submission deadline is May 21, 2009. Questions should be directed to Chuck Zimmer at 505-827-6490 or 800-879-4278, or [email protected].
