About This Call
The LSC is seeking an exterior contemporary artwork for placement in front of the African American Performing Arts Center, under the portal, to the right of the main entrance. Professional artists currently residing in New Mexico and experienced in creating public funded commission projects are invited to submit qualifications. Artists using innovative concepts and materials are encouraged to apply. Media must be durable, low maintenance, permanent, suitable for outdoor display, safe for both children and adults, and ADA compliant. The selected artwork may require certification by a licensed structural engineer and review by a professional Fine Art Conservator at the selected artist's expense.
$35,050 is available for this project, including all fees and expenses: materials, equipment costs, fees, labor, insurance, taxes, travel, installation, project plaque, and written and photographic documentation. Three to five finalists will be invited to submit a formal proposal and will each receive a $1,000 honorarium for a written proposal and maquette. Finalists will receive a travel stipend based on distance: $250 for 50-300 miles one-way, and $450 for 301-800 miles one-way. One site visit is required, including a personal presentation to the LSC and the public.
Submission requirements include a letter of interest or statement of qualifications, current resume demonstrating relevant work experience, ten images of previously completed work, and an annotated image list with title, media, dimensions, year of completion, and project description, budget, and commissioning agency if applicable. Project timeline: Submission deadline May 21, 2009; Notification of finalists June 2009; Finalist presentations September 2009; Artwork completed and installed November 2010. Questions should be directed to Chuck Zimmer at 505-827-6490 or 800-879-4278.
