About This Call
The Art Student Union at Georgia State University and the Diverge Art Club at Spelman College present NEW KIDS, the third annual New Kids on the Block intercollegiate juried exhibition. Organized by students for students, this multimedia exhibition showcases works by current undergraduate and graduate students from eight Atlanta-area colleges and universities: Georgia State University, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Kennesaw State University, Agnes Scott, the University of West Georgia, and the University of Georgia. The exhibition will be on view at Eyedrum Gallery from Thursday, April 7 to Sunday, April 16, with an opening reception on April 7. Jurors are Pastiche Lumumba (Director of The Low Museum), Maxwell Sebastian (visual artist), and Mora Beauchamp-Byrd (Curator and Visiting Assistant Professor of Curatorial Studies at Spelman College).
Eligible participants must be current undergraduate or graduate students at one of the eight participating institutions. All work must be original. All media will be considered including two or three-dimensional works, video, audio, installation, and performance. Each artist may submit up to three individual works with a total of only three media attachments. For audio and video entries, include a link to the piece online rather than a file. Images must be submitted in JPEG format, labeled with the artist's last name followed by the corresponding entry number (e.g., jones1.jpg), with detail images including the word DETAIL in the filename (e.g., jones1detail.jpg). Images should not contain borders or text that is not part of the original work.
Entry fee is $5.00. Applicants will be notified of acceptance on Tuesday, March 29, and must deliver accepted work on Monday, April 4. Accepted work must arrive ready to install—framed work must be wired, canvases must have hanging hardware installed, and sculptures/installations must arrive with necessary installation hardware and instructions. A Best in Show award (prize TBD) will be announced on the opening night. Submission deadline is Monday, March 21 at 11:59 PM. Artwork pickup is Monday, April 17.
