About This Call
NJ TRANSIT is soliciting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from prospective artists to design, fabricate and install artwork for the Lyndhurst Rail Station. This call is specifically for artwork for the railing elements of the station. The proposed artwork is part of the New Jersey Arts Inclusion Program, coordinated by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and NJ TRANSIT. The Lyndhurst Rail Station Construction Project will include the design and construction of new High Level Platforms with a Station Enclosure along the Eastbound tracks and a new High Level Platform along the Westbound Tracks. All improvements will take place near the intersection of Delafield Avenue.
The total estimated proposed budget for art inclusion is $200,000.00, with $65,000.00 allocated for Fencing Inserts (Railings), $55,000.00 for Glazing, and $80,000.00 for Mural. The budget shall cover all costs incurred by the artist relating to design, fabrication and installation of the artwork. Materials selected shall be sustainable and require minimal maintenance and upkeep, and should be appropriate for a public setting. Artists interested in participating shall submit letters summarizing their interest and experience in creating public artworks, including a list of at least 3 references, resume, and photographs/images (minimum: 4, maximum: 6) of examples of public art installations.
Shortlisted artists will receive a request for proposal (RFP) to respond to their ability to approach the project in the specified art medium. Three (3) artists for each medium shall be selected to prepare project-specific, in-person presentations to the Transit Arts Committee at NJ TRANSIT Headquarters in Newark, NJ. Each of the three (3) finalists shall receive a stipend of $1,000.00 to cover costs associated with presentation preparation and travel expenses. Selection criteria include artistic quality, appropriateness to site and project objectives, permanence and durability, absence of public hazards, vandalism protection measures, innovation in materials and techniques, coordination with the project team, ability to meet established timeframes, and fabrication price within budget constraints.
