New Fibers 2016

NEW FIBERS 2016 is a national juried exhibition sponsored by FAN (Fiber Arts Network of Michigan), held at the University Gallery of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. This is the seventh consecutive exhibition, featuring contemporary fiber art in a broad range of forms including textiles rooted in traditional and contemporary approaches, sculpture, conceptual, video, and installation art. The exhibition is open to artists working in all types of fiber materials.

Juror for selection is Jennifer Angus, a professor in the Design Studies department at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Juror for awards is Sherri Smith, Catherine B. Heller Collegiate Professor of Art & Design at the University of Michigan, who will select awards on site. FAN will present first, second, and third place awards. Entry deadline is June 30, 2016, with juror notification on July 30, 2016. The opening reception and awards ceremony is November 2, 2016, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Eligibility is open to all artists 18 years or older living in the United States. Current work completed after December 2013 created in any fiber media and/or using fiber techniques is eligible. Accepted artwork cannot have been previously exhibited at any gallery on the Eastern Michigan University campus. Artists may submit up to three works. Entry fee is $40 for non-members and $30 for FAN members. Work samples may include up to 6 images and up to 3 videos (minimum 1 total sample required). Digital images must be in JPEG format at 72 dpi, minimum 1920 dpi on the longest side, with maximum file size of 5MB. Video maximum file size is 100MB. Shipping and insurance to and from Eastern Michigan University are the artist's responsibility. Accepted work must arrive by October 13 if shipped or October 14 if delivered by hand. All work will be returned at the beginning of January 2017. FAN will promote the exhibit and retain a 40% commission on all exhibition sales.
