New Directions 2021: 37th Annual National Juried Contemporary Art Exhibition

New Directions is a premier national exhibition of new approaches in contemporary art today. Artists are encouraged to submit new works that embrace cutting-edge practices and/or traditional styles in innovative ways. The exhibition welcomes a diverse array of media, including ceramics, digital media, film, graphic art, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, and video. Exhibition dates are September 25 – October 30, 2021.

Now in its 37th year, New Directions is held at Barrett Art Center's 1840s Greek Revival townhouse. Former domestic spaces remodeled as galleries create a visually-compelling setting for contemporary and cutting-edge work. The juror is Vivian Li, The Lupe Murchison Curator of Contemporary Art at the Dallas Museum of Art. Awards include $500 Juror's Prize, $200 Second Prize, and $125 Honorable Mention.

Entry fee is $35 for the first three images plus $5 for each additional image up to fifteen. Video submissions up to three are accepted. Barrett Art Center and The Art Effect Members pay $30 for the first three images plus $5 for each additional image up to ten; members should email [email protected] for coupon code. Artwork must be exhibition ready with appropriate frames and hardware as applicable. Maximum recommended size is 7' in any direction with no minimum. 2D artwork should not weigh in excess of 65 pounds. Artists are responsible for transportation/delivery to and from Barrett Art Center and must provide return shipping labels. BAC collects 20% commission on artwork by Members and 30% on non-Member artwork. Artists will be notified approximately two weeks after the deadline about the selection status of their entries.
