New Directions 2017

New Directions 2017 is the 33rd Annual National Juried Contemporary Art Exhibition presented by Barrett Art Center (Dutchess County Art Association). This premier national exhibition of contemporary art showcases current work by established and emerging artists from across the United States working in varied media and genres. The exhibition will be held in Barrett Art Center's intimate galleries within a restored 1840s Greek Revival townhouse, where former domestic spaces have been remodeled as galleries to create a visually-compelling setting for contemporary and cutting-edge work.

The exhibition is juried by Ruth Erickson, Associate Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. Awards include a $1,000 Juror's Prize, $250 second prize, $175 third prize, and two honorable merit awards, announced at the opening reception. Exhibition dates are October 7 - November 4, 2017, with the opening reception on Saturday, October 7, 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Eligibility is open to all artists residing in the United States and age 18 or older. Eligible visual media include drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, video, sculpture, installation art, glass, ceramics, fiber and mixed media. Two-dimensional work cannot exceed 72 inches along any side including frame. Three-dimensional works must fit within 72 inches high by 30 inches wide by 24 inches deep. All work must be original in design, concept and media, completed within the last three years, and not previously exhibited in New Directions or other past Barrett Art Center exhibits. Entry fee is $50 for non-members ($40 for members) for up to three works, with a $5 fee for each additional entry up to a maximum of 6 total. Submit 3-6 images or videos through the CaFÉ online system at www.callforentry.org. Notification of acceptance will be sent by August 9, 2017.
