New Directions 18: 34th Annual National Juried Contemporary Art Exhibition

New Directions 2018 is a premier national exhibition of contemporary art now in its 34th year. The exhibition takes place in the intimate galleries of Barrett Art Center's 1840s Greek Revival townhouse, with former domestic spaces remodeled as galleries creating a visually-compelling setting for contemporary and cutting-edge work. Artists are encouraged to submit works that provide a juxtaposition of traditional styles and cutting-edge practices in all 2D media, sculpture, video, and installation. The exhibition is visited by art enthusiasts and collectors from the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas, including New York City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and the New England states.

Eligible media includes drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, video, sculpture, installation art, glass, ceramics, fiber and mixed media. Two-dimensional work cannot exceed 72 inches along any side, including the frame. Three-dimensional works must fit within 72 inches in height and width and 30 inches deep. All work must be original in design, concept and media, completed within the last three years, and cannot have been previously exhibited in New Directions or other past Barrett Art Center exhibits. Open to all artists residing in the United States and age 18 or older.

Entry fee is $50 for non-members ($40 for members) for up to three works, with $5 for each additional image up to seven additional images. Artists may submit 3-10 images and up to 10 videos. The juror is Jennifer Inacio, Assistant Curator at Pérez Art Museum Miami. Awards include Juror's Prize of $500, Second Prize of $250, and $100 honorable merit award, announced at the opening reception. Notification of acceptance will be sent by August 10, 2018. Exhibition dates are October 6 - November 18, 2018, with opening reception on Saturday, October 6, 3:00-6:00 p.m. Accepted work delivery dates are Saturday, September 15 (Noon-3PM) and Wednesday-Friday, September 19-21 (9AM-4PM). Barrett Art Center retains a 20% commission fee for member sales and 30% for non-member sales.
