About This Call

The New Albany Public Art Project: Today & Tomorrow Series will place temporary, community-specific public art installations around downtown New Albany, Indiana. This series builds on the success of the New Albany Public Art Project: Bicentennial Series (2010-2013). Following the city's bicentennial, the project's focus shifted to New Albany today and the future of the city. The 2015 series focuses on the theme of sustainability, with future years addressing education & literacy, the arts & design, diversity & human rights, and social change. The project is collaborating with Bernheim Arboretum & Research Forest to present the 2015 theme.

Three artists or artist teams will be selected to create outdoor artworks that must be installed by May 11, 2015 and will remain on view for two years. Each selected artist or artist team will receive an honorarium of $5,000, payable in three installments. Artists are responsible for material costs, installation, de-installation, delivery and pickup costs, travel costs, and all out-of-pocket expenses. This RFP is open to all United States artists or artist teams, age 18 and older, working in any media. Artists may submit up to three proposals but may only be selected to complete one installation in a given year. Proposals must interpret the theme of sustainability and describe the proposed art installation and its relationship to the selected site. A jury composed of artists, curators, and gallery directors will review proposals anonymously.

Three installation sites are available: a concrete patio in front of the New Albanian Brewing Company Bank Street Brewhouse (415 Bank Street), a grassy area next to the main entrance of the YMCA (33 State Street), and the front lawn at the Carnegie Center for Art & History (201 E Spring Street). Artists must select their preferred site with their application but may be asked to install at a different site. Selected artists are required to participate in the New Albany Public Art Walk on June 6, 2015 (6:00-9:00 pm, rain date June 7) by being available at their installation site. Submission deadline: January 5, 2015 at 11:59:59 P.M. Mountain Time Zone. Contact: Karen Gillenwater, [email protected], 812-944-7336.
