About This Call

The City of Frisco Public Art Program is issuing a Request for Qualifications for a public art opportunity at Neighborhood Park – Teel Parkway. The project budget is $40,000.00, all-inclusive of artist fee, fabrication costs, transportation, insurance, engineering services, permit fees, site prep, installation, and related expenses.

Neighborhood Park – Teel Parkway will be built on land once owned by Charles Pearson and his family. Pearson graduated with a degree in Agriculture from Texas A&M after returning from WWII as an officer in the Marine Corps. He moved back to the Frisco area to farm and was hired as a Vocational Agriculture teacher at Frisco High School. His wife Emily and their four children settled in Frisco in 1958 and opened a dairy farm on the land that will become Neighborhood Park – Teel Parkway. He served as President of the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees for 10 years and remained active at the dairy until 1987. The public art project must reflect the history of the site as a dairy farm and serve as a tribute to Charles Pearson's service to the community, especially his dedication to shaping education in Frisco.

The public art must be a freestanding, outdoor artwork suitable to be viewed from all angles, made of low-maintenance, durable materials resistant to vandalism and heat. All materials must be approved by City of Frisco staff. The artwork should be welcoming to visitors and be safe and hazard-free. Completion is required by July 2019 (tentative). This opportunity is open to all artists. Qualifications must be submitted online by 4:00 p.m. CST, Monday, December 3, 2018. Submit a completed cover page, typed cover letter, artist resume with current contact information, artist statement, three references with current contact information, and no more than 15 images of past work (with the first five being most relevant to this project). The Artist Selection Committee will evaluate qualifications based on demonstrated excellence of past work, quality of professional qualifications and relevant experience, stated interest and approach specific to this project, and ability to create work meeting project goals. Finalists may be requested to develop proposals or be interviewed. Questions should be submitted to [email protected] by 4 p.m. CST on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.
