Needles & Thread

Gallery One Visual Arts Center announces their third national juried exhibition titled Needles & Thread. Entries of fiber work will be accepted from across the nation and juried by Mandy Greer for inclusion in a month-long exhibition in April 2017 at Gallery One in downtown Ellensburg. The exhibition will be featured in the Main and Mezzanine Galleries. Opportunities for lectures, workshops, and/or special events will be offered to select artists to accompany the exhibition.

Media accepted includes fiber/textile material composed of natural or synthetic fibers such as fiber, yarn or felt. Works may include mixed media so long as the primary material is fiber, and works may be photographic or video based so long as the primary subject matter is fiber. A maximum of 6 artwork entries are permitted. Entry fee is $20 for the first entry and $10 for each additional entry. All work must have been completed within the last three years, originals only (no reproductions), and cannot be completed under the direction of an instructor or as a matriculated student. Open to all artists 18 years and older residing in the USA.

Awards totaling $1000 will be distributed by juror Mandy Greer: $400 for Most Innovative Artwork, $250 for Best Traditional Fiber, $250 for Best Non-Traditional Fiber, $100 for Award of Merit, and $100 for Staff Pick. All exhibiting artists will receive a printed catalog and a PDF of the catalog will be available online. Email notifications will be sent March 10, 2017. The opening reception is April 7, 2017 from 5 to 8pm with awards at 6:15pm. Artwork must be for sale and artists receive a 60% commission of the retail value.
