About This Call
The NCECA 2026 Multicultural Fellowship Exhibition is a call for entries from past NCECA Multicultural Fellows. The exhibition will be hosted by the Art Department Gallery of Wayne State University (5400 Gullen Mall, Detroit, MI 48202) and will run February 6 - March 28, 2026, concurrent with VOLUMES, the 60th annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (March 25-28, 2026). Ceramic artist Renata Cassiano Alvarez will select works for the exhibition.
Eligibility is by invitation only for past NCECA Multicultural Fellows. Current NCECA membership is not required. Artists may submit up to three individual artworks. This exhibition focuses on dynamic expressions of ceramic creation, media, process, history, and context. Mixed-media pieces are acceptable only when clay and ceramic expressions are predominant and essential to the work's creation. Works involving video that reference ceramic materials, processes, history, and/or extend expressive work capacities in clay are eligible; video samples should be submitted as links to accessible files on YouTube, Vimeo, or similar platforms, with a maximum of two videos per submission, no longer than two minutes each. Works involving digitally or chemically produced photography referencing ceramic materials, process, history, and/or extending expressive work capacities in clay are also eligible. All pieces must be able to fit through the venue's entryways and be safely installed within the museum. Floor and pedestal work must be self-supporting.
Submissions must include: up to six images (minimum one), up to three audio files, and up to three video files. Artists must provide an artist statement (1,000 character limit), a brief biographical statement in third person (300-650 characters), a 2-page CV as PDF or Word document (max 2 MB), optional pronouns, a high-resolution headshot (300 dpi, JPEG/JPG format only), and up to two social media links. The entry deadline is June 25, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Unfinished work, sketches, illustrations, models, and maquettes will not be accepted. Works previously exhibited in NCECA Cornerstone exhibitions are not eligible. No substitutions will be allowed after submission.
