About This Call
The NCECA Annual Exhibition, True and Real, will run concurrently with FORMATION, the 59th annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, March 26-29, 2025. The exhibition will be hosted by the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) in Salt Lake City, Utah, and will run March 7-May 31, 2025. The NCECA Annual blends invitational and open juried models of exhibition development. Exhibition curator Judith S. Schwartz's organizing concept is brought to life through the work of five invited artists, with additional works and artists selected through an open call for submissions.
The exhibition seeks artists and artworks that highlight issues resonating with the complexities of the current condition—concerns, fears, and issues that create common ground. The curator invites narrative content, representation, and figuration on ceramic form in all its variations, with the intent to strengthen the power of art to convey personal values and the social condition. Submission of works for consideration is open to the broad field of ceramic art. Artists must be over 18 years of age and not matriculating for a degree in higher education. NCECA membership is not required; however, NCECA members receive complimentary entry. Non-member entry fee is $50.00.
All works must be primarily ceramic; mixed media works are accepted only when clay is the dominant material. Videos featuring clay or ceramics are also accepted. Artists may submit up to three individual works with no more than two supporting media files per work, not to exceed six total media files. Work samples may include 1-6 images, 0-3 audio files, and 0-3 video files. All work must fit through the venue's entryways and be safely installed. Floor and pedestal works must be self-supporting. Works shown in previous NCECA exhibitions are not eligible. The entry deadline is June 20, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Contact: [email protected] or visit https://utahmoca.org.
