About This Call

The 2020 NCECA Juried Student Exhibition will run concurrently with MULTIVALENT: Clay, Mindfulness And Memory, the 54th annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, in Richmond, Virginia, March 25-28, 2020. The exhibition runs March 25 - April 19, 2020 at artspace (Zero East 4th St., Richmond, VA 23224). Ceramic artists Virginia Scotchie and Salvador Jiménez-Flores will select works for the exhibition.

Eligibility is open to undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate students enrolled in the United States, Canada, and Mexico who are working towards a degree or are post-baccalaureate in art at the time of submission. Students enrolled at institutions where the jurors currently serve as faculty are not eligible. Entry fee is $30.00 for non-members; NCECA members enter free. Applicants may submit up to two works with up to four total media files (maximum two files per work). Work samples may include 1-4 images, up to 2 audio files, and up to 2 video files.

All works must be primarily ceramic; mixed media works are accepted only when clay is the dominant material. Video works referencing ceramic materials, process, history, or extending expressive capacities of clay will be considered at jurors' discretion. Video samples should be submitted as links to YouTube, Vimeo, or similar platforms; one video must be no longer than two minutes, with an optional link to full-length video. Photography referencing ceramic materials, process, history, or extending expressive capacities of clay will be considered at jurors' discretion. Floor and pedestal works must be self-supporting; wall hanging works must include suitable hanging systems. Individual objects should weigh less than 100 lbs. and fit through a 36" x 80" entrance door. Larger modular works may be accommodated. All work samples must not include visual representation of the applicant's name to enable blind adjudication. Contact [email protected] for questions about eligibility or submission rules.
