About This Call
The NCECA 2018 Annual Exhibition, titled Visual Voices: Truth Narratives, will be held at the Society for Contemporary Craft (2100 Smallman St, Pittsburgh, PA 15222) from March 14–August 18, 2018. The exhibition is curated by Winnie Owens-Hart, an educator, artist, filmmaker, and critical thinker in ceramics and culture. The curator has invited five artists—Syd Carpenter, Roberto Lugo, Sana Musasama, Reginald Pointer, and Janathel Shaw—to frame the curatorial concerns. Additional artists will be selected through an open call for submissions.
The exhibition seeks emerging and seasoned ceramic artists working with narrative themes. Artists are invited to submit work that addresses personal and global issues, acknowledging how intolerances spawn racial, religious, class, and gender biases. The curator is especially interested in how each piece addresses the pertinence to the exhibition theme. Submissions must include digital images (1–6 images, or up to 3 audio files or 3 video files) and a statement about each piece's narrative. Works must be primarily ceramic (mixed media accepted only when clay is dominant), completed within the last two years, and able to fit through venue entryways and be safely installed. Floor and pedestal works must be self-supporting.
Eligibility is open internationally to ceramic artists over 18 years of age who are not currently matriculating for a degree. Entry fees are $35 for non-members and $20 for NCECA members. The entry deadline is June 14, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. For membership information or questions, contact [email protected] or visit www.nceca.net/membership/.
