NC Statewide Juried Pastel Exhibition

The Appalachian Pastel Society, the Pastel Society of North Carolina, and the Piedmont Pastel Society present ON COMMON GROUND: Pastel Paintings From The Mountains To The Sea 2013 North Carolina Statewide Juried Pastel Exhibition. The show is open only to current members of one of the three North Carolina Pastel Societies. Artists may enter online only through www.callforentry.org. The entry fee is $35 for up to three images. Digital entries must be submitted by midnight Mountain Time on March 18, 2013. Images must be 1920 pixels on the longest side and under 3 MB.

Only paintings done in dry pastel may be submitted, with 80% of the exposed surface being dry pastel. No oil pastels will be accepted. Paintings must be entirely the work of the artist and executed within the last three years. Artists may not submit works copied from other artists or publications, and paintings done under supervision such as a workshop or class are not eligible. Framed paintings cannot exceed 60 inches in either direction. All artwork must be suitably framed for gallery presentation, wired and ready to hang, with light-colored mats. No saw-toothed hangers or clip frames are permitted.

Shipped paintings should arrive between May 6-13, 2013 (weekdays only, 9 am-5 pm) at Hickory Museum of Art, 243 Third Avenue NE, Hickory, North Carolina 28601. Hand-delivered paintings are accepted May 10 (1-4 pm) and May 11 (10 am-2 pm). Notification of acceptance/rejection will be sent April 18-20, 2013. The opening reception and awards presentation is May 18, 2013 at 6-8 pm. The exhibition runs through August 18, 2013. Prizes and cash awards total over $3,000. Juror Frederick Somers will select final entries and judge paintings in the gallery. A 30% commission applies to any paintings sold during the exhibition. Artists are responsible for shipping costs and insurance. Paintings will be returned August 20, 2013.
