About This Call
Sixteen artists will be selected for the exhibition: eight Florida artists and eight from outside the state. This structure allows audiences to compare and contrast an insider's versus a tourist's point of view on Florida's diverse, complicated, beautiful, and always interesting character.
For the eight non-Florida artists, the Museum will provide a $1,000 honorarium to travel to and experience Florida, seeking or confronting subjects, ideas, and inspiration for the art they will create for the exhibition. Travel must be completed by December 31, 2009. Selected artists will be required to document their experience with a journal, receipts, travel blog, video, photographs, or by any means relating to their proposal in addition to creating their artwork(s) or installations. For the eight Florida-based artists, the Museum will provide a $250 honorarium to encourage new reflections and new works of art from an insider's point of view. Selected Florida artists will be required to provide creative proof of their Florida bona-fides.
Submissions must include a narrative describing proposed work(s) or installation and its relevance to the exhibition, detailed information regarding media, size, and special requirements, artist resume, and five images of previous artwork. The entry fee is $20. The Museum will pay for shipping of accepted artwork and catalog support materials, which must be received by January 15, 2010. Acceptance notifications will be emailed by November 16, 2009. The Museum will create and publish a catalog and website documenting the formulation process and the art of the exhibition. All works must be available for touring (estimated 3 years). Jurors are Jackie Borsanyi, the Museum's curator, and Steven Maklansky, President of the Museum.
