Navasota Artist in Residency Spring 2018

The Artists in Residence program offers up to three selected artists the opportunity to live and work in the historic Horlock Home in Navasota, Texas. The residency term runs from February 16, 2018 to August 10, 2018 (approximately six months). Selected artists will receive free studio space, living space, retail gallery space, and utilities. Each artist will also receive a one-time $600 stipend at the beginning of the residency to assist with groceries, fuel, and supply purchases. Artists are responsible for all groceries, equipment, supplies, and transportation.

Eligible applicants must be artists working in 2-D or 3-D mixed media, drawing, fiber arts, literature, music, painting, poetry, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, or digital media. Applicants must be available to live in Navasota for the entire six-month term, be fluent in English, have reliable transportation, and be eligible to live in the United States. All participating artists must pass a background check and may not hold a full-time or part-time job during the residency. Artists must be the sole occupant of their residency location with no pets allowed.

Artists are required to keep the Horlock Gallery open to the public Wednesday through Sunday 9:00am-6:00pm and work shifts in the gallery each week. For pieces sold through The Arts Council events and at the Horlock House, artists receive 70% of sales with 30% going to The Arts Council. The City of Navasota and The Arts Council will provide PR opportunities including radio interviews, promotion at Arts Council events, and inclusion in newsletters. Applications require 1-6 images and will be juried with finalists selected for Skype interviews. Final decisions will be made in mid-December 2017. Entry fee is $20.00.
