About This Call
The Artists in Residence program offers up to three selected artists the opportunity to live and work in the historic Horlock Home in Navasota, Texas for approximately six months (February 27, 2017 to August 7, 2017). The residency includes free studio space, living space, retail gallery space, and utilities. Selected artists must supply their own materials, equipment, food, and transportation.
Eligible applicants must be artists working in 2-D or 3-D mixed media, drawing, fiber arts, literature, music, painting, poetry, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, or digital media. Applicants must be available to live in Navasota for the entire six-month term, be fluent in English, have reliable transportation, and be eligible to live in the United States. Artists may not hold a full-time or part-time job during the residency and must pass a background check.
Artists are responsible for maintaining their living and working quarters, managing the Horlock House Gallery (open Wednesday-Sunday, 9:00am-6:00pm), and working gallery shifts. Sales of artwork in gallery shows and at the Horlock House are split 70/30, with 70% going to the artist and 30% to The Arts Council. The City of Navasota and The Arts Council will provide PR opportunities including radio interviews, promotion at Arts Council events, and inclusion in newsletters. Teaching opportunities may be available. Entry fee is $25.00. Applications will be juried and finalists selected for Skype interviews, with final decisions made in late January 2017.
