About This Call
The Artists in Residence program offers selected artists the opportunity to live and work in the historic Horlock Home in Navasota, Texas. The residency term is approximately six months, running from August 16, 2018 to February 10, 2019. Up to three artists will be selected to receive free studio space, living space, retail gallery space, and utilities. Each selected artist will receive a one-time $600 stipend at the beginning of the residency to assist with groceries, fuel, and supply purchases.
Eligible applicants must be artists working in 2-D or 3-D mixed media, drawing, fiber arts, literature, music, painting, poetry, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, or digital media. Applicants must be available to live in Navasota for the entire six-month term, be fluent in English, have reliable transportation, and be eligible to live in the United States. Artists may not hold a full-time or part-time job during the residency and must pass a background check.
Selected artists are responsible for supplying their own materials, equipment, food, and transportation. The residency provides basic furnishings (queen bed, dresser, desk) and shared spaces including kitchen, laundry room, den, and bathrooms. Artists must live and work solely at the Horlock House, maintain the living and working quarters, and staff the Horlock Gallery open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00am-6:00pm. For artwork sold through The Arts Council events and at the Horlock House Gallery, artists receive 70% of sales with 30% going to The Arts Council. The City of Navasota and The Arts Council may offer paid teaching opportunities. Applications are juried with finalists selected for Skype interviews. Final decisions will be made in mid-July 2018. Entry fee is $20.00. Submit 1-6 images of work samples.
