About This Call
The Artists in Residence program offers an opportunity to live and work in the historic Horlock Home in Navasota, Texas. Three artists will be selected to participate in a six-month residency (late-August 2016 to mid-February 2017) with free studio space, living space, retail gallery space, utilities, internet, and cable provided by the City of Navasota and The Arts Council. Selected artists are responsible for supplying their own materials, equipment, food, and transportation.
Eligible applicants must be artists working in 2-D or 3-D mixed media, drawing, fiber arts, literature, music, painting, poetry, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, or digital media. Applicants must be available to live in Navasota for the entire six-month term, be fluent in English, and be eligible to live in the United States. All participating artists must pass a background check, may not hold a full-time or part-time job during the residency, and must be the sole occupant of their residency location with no pets allowed. Artists are required to keep the Horlock Gallery open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00am-6:00pm, and manage the gallery including displaying works and sales. Any pieces sold through gallery shows and at the Horlock House will be split 70/30, with 70% going to the artist and 30% to The Arts Council.
The City of Navasota and The Arts Council will provide PR opportunities including radio interviews, promotion at Arts Council events, inclusion in newsletters, and attendance at Arts Council events and Horlock House Open Studio events. Paid teaching opportunities may be available for participating artists. Entry fee is $25.00 (make checks payable to The Arts Council). Submit 1-6 images. Applications will be juried and finalists will be selected for a Skype interview. Final decisions will be made in mid-July 2016.
