About This Call

The Navasota Artist in Residence program offers selected artists the opportunity to live and work in the historic Horlock Home in Navasota, Texas for approximately six months. The program provides three participating artists with free living space, studio space, and retail gallery space, as well as utilities. Each selected artist receives a one-time $600 stipend at the beginning of the residency to assist with groceries, fuel, and supply purchases. The City of Navasota and The Arts Council will offer PR opportunities including radio interviews, promotion at Arts Council events, inclusion in newsletters, and attendance at Arts Council events.

Eligible applicants must be artists working in 2-D Mixed Media, 3-D Mixed Media, Drawing, Fiber arts, Literature, Music, Painting, Poetry, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, or Digital Media. Applicants must be available to live in Navasota for the entire six-month term, be fluent in English, have reliable transportation, and be eligible to live in the United States. Artists are responsible for all groceries, equipment, and supplies necessary for artwork production. The residency housing provides basic furnishings including a queen bed, dresser, and desk, with shared kitchen, laundry, and bathroom facilities. Artists must keep the Horlock Gallery open to the public Wednesday through Sunday and work shifts in the gallery each week. No pets are allowed, and artists may not hold a full-time or part-time job during the residency. All participating artists must pass a background check. Sales of artwork through The Arts Council and at the Horlock House follow a 70/30 split, with 70% going to the artist and 30% to The Arts Council. Applications will be juried and finalists selected for virtual interviews. Entry fee: $25.00. Work sample requirements: 3-6 images, 0-3 audio files, 0-3 video files (3-12 total samples).
