About This Call
The City of Navasota and The Arts Council of Brazos Valley offer an Artist in Residency program providing selected artists with live and work space in the historic Horlock Home in Navasota, Texas. The residency term is six months, running from August 15, 2014 to February 15, 2015. Up to three artists will be selected.
Selected artists receive free studio space, living space, retail gallery space, and utilities. Artists must supply their own materials, equipment, and food. Artists are responsible for maintaining the living and working quarters and must be the sole occupant of the residency location. The Horlock House Art Gallery and Museum must be kept open to the public during regular hours determined by the City and Arts Council. All participating artists must pass a background check.
Artists are encouraged but not required to participate in paid teaching opportunities. Work may be shown at various Gallery at Large locations throughout the Brazos Valley, with sales split 70% to the artist and 30% to The Arts Council. Artists are responsible for managing the Horlock House Gallery and documenting all sales with appropriate sales tax. Any artist concentrating in 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, drawing, fiber, literature, music, painting, poetry, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, digital media, or video is eligible to apply. Applicants must be available to live in Navasota for the entire six-month term. Applications are accepted until space is filled, with final selections made in July 2014.
