About This Call
Jackson Hole Public Art is seeking an artist or artist team to design a Nature Viewing Pavilion at North Park in Jackson, Wyoming, located on National Elk Refuge lands at the gateway to Grand Teton National Park.
The site-specific pavilion should provide a year-round gathering place for nature viewing, educational and cultural activities, reflecting the natural beauty of the site and native wildlife including swans, waterfowl and the wintering elk herd. The design must be visible from a distance (with height limitations), ADA accessible from the sidewalk, parking and bike path, and utilize cost-effective, natural or re-purposed materials such as wood and/or non-reflective metal. Functional items integrated into the design include seating and shade on the southern facing sides. The artist should consider a pre-fabricated approach to allow for potential future relocation to accommodate a new visitor center.
The project budget is $95,000 for fabrication, construction documentation (including engineering), and installation. One to three finalists will receive a $1,000 stipend to cover round-trip travel to Jackson Hole for a site visit and presentation to the selection panel. One finalist will be contracted for $5,000 to participate in a residency in Jackson Hole to develop a detailed final concept and budget. Applicants should explain in their letter of interest how they have collaborated with other public artists, landscape architects, or associated design professionals in previous work. The application deadline is April 8, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Applications are limited to 200 submissions and may fill before the announced deadline.
