Nature -- Landscape Serene and Savage

The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists and photographers of all levels to submit original 2D artwork to this exhibition. Landscapes are powerful physical and spiritual reminders of our view of the complex material world and its significance in our lives. Nature can be tranquil and comforting -- beautiful gardens, picturesque seacoasts, glowing sunrises and sunsets, gentle rain showers, mighty trees and graceful clouds. On the other hand, Nature can be ferocious and dangerous -- raging thunderstorms, jagged mountain cliffs, uncontrollable floods, earthquake carnage and the hostile wilderness. Artists are invited to share personal interpretations and visions of Nature. They can be serene or savage, vast or intimate, somber or bright, mysterious or lucid, realistic or imaginary. Human figures can be absent, dominant or diminutive. In addition to depicting landscapes and seascapes, images may also include structures and architectural elements. Portrayals of individual flowers, trees, birds and animals are welcome, as are reflections and shadows. Any style is acceptable: representational, abstract, impressionist, cubist, expressionist, or a synthesis.

Accepted mediums include painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, drawing, and photography. Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 images, with additional images available for $5.00 each up to a maximum of 9 images. All images must be JPG format, under 5 MB, with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Artists must be 18 years of age or older and reside in the United States. Only 2D artwork will be included; no reproductions or derivatives of original artwork or copyrighted images will be accepted. All artwork must be professionally finished and ready for secure installation. Framed pieces must be equipped with stretched wire; sawtooth hangers and unframed work will not be accepted. Pieces should not be larger than 44" (framed) on the longest side and no more than 40 lbs in weight. Photographs must be framed and matted in white or off-white only, with black or white frames preferred.

Notification to artists will be sent by August 22, 2021. Accepted artwork must arrive at the Gallery no later than September 3, 2021. The exhibition runs September 6 through September 28, 2021. Awards include First Prize $400, Second Prize $200, and Third Prize $100. One artist will be selected from all individuals accepted and displayed in an MVA Gallery exhibit during the calendar year for an exhibition opportunity in New York City, with notification in December. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and insurance both to and from the Gallery and must provide a prepaid return shipping label from UPS or FedEx. For sales, artists receive 70% of the final sale price and the Gallery receives 30%. Artists retain all rights to submitted images and artwork.
