About This Call
Longmont's Art in Public Places (AIPP) Commission is accepting submissions from artists or teams of artists for a permanent bronze sculpture installation to be located along the St. Vrain greenway. The project is funded by an anonymous donation from a couple with deep roots in Longmont who wish to commission a bronze sculpture with a nature theme.
The selected sculpture will be added to the permanent collection and placed along the three-mile St. Vrain greenway trail, which features the St. Vrain River, several ponds, and diverse wildlife including deer, fox, raccoons, osprey, ducks, eagles, and various bird species. The budget is up to $20,000, which includes all fees for design, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, artists' insurance, and miscellaneous expenses. Artists may submit up to three works with a total of twelve images (up to four images per piece). Any practicing visual artist residing in the United States may apply, including graduate and undergraduate students pursuing degrees in fine art. The AIPP Commission encourages applications from artists of all cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
Submissions must adhere to 2002 AIPP guidelines for bronze sculptures: artwork may be one of a number of castings, but no sculpture in its entirety shall be intentionally duplicated within 100 miles of Longmont. The selected artist must provide conservation recommendations and will be required to maintain proof of Commercial General Liability insurance with limits of no less than $1,000,000 per occurrence. A selection panel will review submissions based on quality and innovation, timelessness, compatibility with the site, permanence, and public safety. Three finalists may be selected. Applications must be received by January 21, 2018, through callforentry.org. The winner will be announced in February 2018, with delivery and installation scheduled for early summer 2018.
