About This Call

Jackson Hole Public Art seeks an artist to create a custom illustration depicting the native flora, fauna, land, and geothermal features found at Astoria Hot Springs in Jackson, Wyoming. The primary image will welcome visitors at the main entrance and depict the variety of creatures, plants, and natural features found in this landscape. The artist will consult with The Trust for Public Land, Astoria Park Conservancy staff, and local scientists, and conduct research to identify different species found on site. The artist will review the community engagement report and ecology studies. Astoria Park Conservancy will have the right to reproduce any imagery created by the artist for large and small installations integrated into the built infrastructure, way-finding features, and other structures throughout the park. The artwork should complement and match the TPL donor recognition wall.

The artwork will be printed on diabond panel material in a horizontal, rectangular format and displayed on a wall approximately 33' x 7' clad with natural stone finish. The material is selected to withstand temperature fluctuations from 40 below zero to 100 degrees. The artist will coordinate with the construction team on design and dimensions. Artists living in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana are invited to apply. Preference may be given to local or regional artists. Applicants should demonstrate prior experience with similar project budgets and scales, ability to meet deadlines, experience with proposed materials, and knowledge of local plants and animals.

The total project budget is $3,500. One finalist will be selected to enter into a design contract with JH Public Art to develop a concept and final artwork. Submissions are due by April 3, 2020. The timeline includes finalist announcement in April 2020, concepts due May 1, 2020, final artwork due June 30, 2020, fabrication in July 2020, and installation in August 2020. Applicants must submit a letter of interest (500 words maximum), a two-page professional resume, up to 6 images of previously created work in JPEG format (1920 pixels maximum, 72 dpi, under 2MB), and up to 3 current references with name, phone, email, title, and one sentence describing professional association.
