Native Daughter: An Esther Rolle Inspired Exhibition

The Ali Cultural Arts Center, located in Pompano Beach, invites artists nationwide to submit original artworks celebrating Esther Rolle's participation in the musical artform. In 1975, acclaimed actress Esther Rolle released an album entitled "The Garden of My Mind," which reflected on her experiences growing up as the daughter of a Florida bean farmer and the 10th of 18 children. The exhibition seeks to honor this album and the themes of human emotion it explores.

Artists may submit up to three digital images in JPG format (no larger than 5MB each) via callforentry.org. The submission fee is $10. Entries must be original works completed within the last ten years and must not exceed 50 inches in any dimension. All two-dimensional work must be ready-to-hang. Accepted artists will be notified by email on September 12, 2023, and will receive a 70% commission on artwork sold. The exhibition runs from October 27, 2023 to February 10, 2024.

Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance of their artworks. Work must be shipped prepaid in sturdy, reusable packing to Ali Cultural Arts Center and must include a prepaid return label. Work may also be delivered in person. The City of Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department is not responsible for damage to artwork during transport.
