About This Call
The National Weather Center Biennale is open to artists of any nationality over the age of 18. All work must be original, created within the last two years, and may not have been exhibited in previous National Weather Center Biennale exhibitions. Non-eligible work includes art created in a classroom setting or under supervision of an instructor, copies or reproductions of original works, or compositions from published sources or based on another artist's work.
Acceptable media categories include painting (2D works in oil, acrylic, gouache, and watercolor), mixed media (2D works in graphite, colored pencil, pastel, printmaking, and other media), and photography and video. All work accepted for exhibition must not exceed 48 x 48 inches and 50 lbs in weight, including any framing and mounting. Video submissions may not exceed 30 seconds in length and may not include sound. Artists may enter up to three works in any combination of categories. The entry fee is $25 for the first entry and $10 for each subsequent entry.
The 2017 guest juror is Joe Goode. Awards include $10,000 Best of Show, $5,000 Best of Photography/Video, $5,000 Best of Mixed Media, $5,000 Best of Painting, and $1,000 People's Choice Award. The artist submission deadline is October 1, 2016. Artist notifications will be sent November 15, 2016, with a December 1, 2016 deadline for accepted artists to submit required materials. The exhibition opens April 23, 2017 and closes June 19, 2017. All work must be suitably fitted with "D" rings or wire for hanging. Gallery-wrap canvas or cradled panel is acceptable as long as the sides are neatly painted/finished. Works on paper and photography must be framed and glazed with acrylic or plexi-glass. Video works will be exhibited as a loop on provided monitors and should be submitted as .mov or .mp4 files. A fully illustrated catalogue will be produced and a complimentary copy will be sent to each selected artist.
