About This Call
The National Watercolor Society invites artists to submit work for the 102nd International Open Exhibition. Approximately $40,000+ in cash and merchandise awards will be distributed, including a $5,000 NWS Permanent Collection Purchase Award. Acceptance counts toward NWS Signature status and qualifies artists for Signature Review.
Eligibility and Requirements: Artists must be 18 years or older. Each artist may enter one painting created after January 1, 2020. Work must be watermedia paintings on natural or synthetic paper, Yupo, Aquabord, or Claybord and must be framed. No stretched canvas, canvas board, digital media, photography, prints, reproductions, diptychs, or triptychs are permitted. Collage may be used if aqueous medium constitutes 80% or more of the work. All collage materials must be original designs executed on watermedia paper by the artist. Work previously exhibited in any National or International Open Exhibition, including NWS Member Exhibition, is not eligible. Artwork must be original, painted only by the artist, and not produced in a class or workshop. Photo reference material must have been taken by the artist. Minimum artwork size is 5" x 7"; maximum is 40" on the longest dimension. Original artwork must match the submitted digital image.
Submission and Fees: Entry fee is $40 for NWS members and $65 for non-members. Entries are accepted online via CaFE from April 1 through May 12, 2022, with the deadline at 12:00 noon Pacific Time on May 12. Digital images must be JPEG or JPG format, 1200 pixels or greater on the longest side, and maximum 5MB. Images must be cropped to exclude mat, frame, and background. All entry fees are non-refundable. All accepted artwork must be shipped and is required to be for sale with no price changes after acceptance. NWS retains a 30% commission on all sales and presold paintings. Accepted artists will be notified on June 7, 2022. The exhibition runs September 1 through November 6, 2022. Monetary awards remaining unclaimed by December 1, 2022 will be forfeited. Contact Judy Saltzman, NWS Exhibition Director, at [email protected] for questions.
