About This Call
National Purebred Dog Day announces its sixth annual Fine Art/Poster competition. The Best in Show winner, as determined by juror Ms. Nadi Spencer, will receive $2,000 and have their winning image made into a poster representing National Purebred Dog Day for 2024.
Artists are strongly encouraged to include a breed from each of the AKC groups: Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Herding, Toy, Non-Sporting, Miscellaneous, and FSS. Art will be judged on diversity of breeds, positive representation of purebred dog heritage and diversity, creativity and originality, craftsmanship, skill in use of medium, and whether the interpretation will maintain integrity when translated into a poster.
Competition is open to artists over 18 years of age internationally with no affiliation with animal rights groups. Entries must be original artwork in oil, acrylic, watercolor, graphite, colored pencil, pastel, water soluble oils, casein, charcoal, conte crayons, mixed media, gouache, tempera, or ink. Photographs, sculptures, digital, and fiber art are not accepted. Entry fee is $35.00 per submitted image; artists may submit up to three works. Original size is at the artist's discretion, but the finished poster size will be 18 x 24". Submissions must be digital JPEG images including the piece name, price, medium, and artist name. The winning artist will be notified by November 15, 2023. All entries are encouraged to be made available for sale on National Purebred Dog Day's website, where National Purebred Dog Day will retain 25% of sold pieces. The winning artist agrees not to generate independent electronic or digital reproductions of the winning piece for three years from the date of winning.
