National Purebred Dog Day Fine Art/Poster Competition 2023

National Purebred Dog Day announces its sixth annual Fine Art/Poster competition. The competition is open to all artists internationally who are over 18 years of age and have no affiliation with, nor support any animal rights group. One "Best in Show" winner as determined by the juror will receive $2,000, and their winning image will be made into a poster representing National Purebred Dog Day for 2023.

Artists are strongly encouraged to include a breed from each of the AKC groups: Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Herding, Toy, Non-Sporting, Miscellaneous, and FSS. Art will be judged according to the following standards: Does the image include a diversity of breeds? Does the image positively address the heritage, diversity and/or predictability of purebred dogs? Does the image demonstrate creativity, originality, and craftsmanship? Does the artist demonstrate skill in their use of the medium? Will the artist's interpretation hold its integrity when translated into a poster? The juror is Mr. Alan Fausal, Director Emeritus of the AKC Museum of the Dog.

Entries must be original artwork in both concept and execution. Accepted media includes oil, acrylic, watercolor, graphite, colored pencil, pastel, water soluble oils, casein, charcoal, conte crayons, mixed media, gouache, tempera, or ink. Photographs, sculptures, digital, and fiber art are not accepted. The entry fee is $35.00 per submitted image; artists may submit up to three works. Original size is left to the artist's discretion, but the finished poster size will be 18 x 24". Entries must be submitted as digital JPEG images. Each submission must include the name of the piece, its price, medium, and the artist's name. The winning artist will be notified via email or telephone on November 22, 2022. Though not mandatory, all entries are encouraged to be made available for sale on National Purebred Dog Day's website after a winner is chosen, with National Purebred Dog Day retaining 25% of sold pieces.
