National Purebred Dog Day Fine Art/Poster 2025 Competition

National Purebred Dog Day announces its ninth annual Fine Art/Poster competition. The Best in Show winner, as determined by juror Dan Sayers (Editor-In-Chief of SHOWSIGHT), will receive $2,000 and have their winning image made into a poster representing National Purebred Dog Day for 2025.

Artists are strongly encouraged to include breeds from each of the AKC groups: Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Herding, Toy, Non-Sporting, Miscellaneous, and FSS. Work will be judged on whether the image includes different breeds highlighting the diversity of purebred dogs, positively addresses the heritage, diversity, and/or predictability of purebred dogs, demonstrates creativity, originality, and craftsmanship, shows skill in the artist's use of medium, and will hold its integrity when translated into a poster.

Competition is open to all artists over 18 years of age internationally who have no affiliation with, nor support any animal rights group. Entries must be original artwork in both concept and execution. Accepted media include oil, acrylic, watercolor, graphite, colored pencil, pastel, water soluble oils, casein, charcoal, conte crayons, mixed media, gouache, tempera, and ink. Printmaking methods such as serigraph, woodcut, linocut, intaglio, or lithography are accepted, but additional runs of the entry should not be created for one year if it wins Best in Show. Photographs, sculptures, digital/AI, and fiber art are not accepted. Original size is left to the artist's discretion; the finished poster size will be 18 x 24". Entry fee is $35.00 per image; artists may submit up to three works at $35.00 each. Submissions must be digital JPEG images with the piece name, price, medium, and artist's name included. The winning artist will be notified by November 25, 2024. All entries are encouraged to be made available for sale on National Purebred Dog Day's website, where National Purebred Dog Day will retain 25% of sold pieces. The winning artist agrees not to generate electronic or digital images or reproductions of the winning piece or sell images of that piece independent of National Purebred Dog Day for three years from the date of winning.
