About This Call
GALACTIC PLEASURES is a national exhibition of visual art celebrating artwork that showcases the imagination of art and science, exploring the future, science, science fiction, fantasy, and steampunk. The exhibition runs September 2-25, 2016, produced by The Studio Door in San Diego. An opening reception is scheduled for September 3, 2016, from 6 PM to 9 PM.
Accepted media includes painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, artist books, ceramics, stained glass, sculpture, and oversized jewelry defined as fine art. The exhibition does not accept jewelry (as defined as craft), video, film, performance art, installation, or works requiring an external electrical source. Submissions must be original work by the artist. Two-dimensional work must not exceed 8 feet in height and 4 feet in width (including frame). Three-dimensional work must fit a pedestal sized 16 inches x 16 inches or take up no more than 4 feet of gallery floor space. Artwork must arrive gallery ready, ready to hang, and professionally presented. Framed artwork must use black wood or natural wood frames with no color mats and plexi only (no glass).
The juror, Victor Ciccarelli (STEAMmaker), will select works for both the physical gallery exhibition at The Studio Door and an online gallery. A Juror's Award ribbon and certificate will be presented to three works expressing the most imaginative interpretation of the theme, with one designated "Best in Show" to be used as the exhibition catalog cover. All selected artwork will be included in the national exhibition virtual catalog. Entry fee is $35 for one artwork submission, $5 for each additional submission (up to three total). Artists must submit 1-3 images online through CaFÉ. An artist statement of maximum 1,000 characters relating the work to the show's theme is required. Artists will be notified by August 14, 2016. Hand-delivery of artwork is available August 28 (Noon-4 PM) or August 30 (10 AM-6 PM). Shipped artwork must arrive by August 26, 2016, with prepaid shipping labels required. For online gallery selections only, artwork delivery is not necessary. The Studio Door retains 40% of sales with 60% going to the artist. Artwork must remain on exhibit for the duration of the show.
