About This Call
FASHION is an exhibition of visual art celebrating the fusion of fine art and fashion, running March 5–27, 2016, produced by The Studio Door in San Diego. The Studio Door is seeking artwork that represents fashion, the fashion world, fashion icons, and haute couture. Artists are invited to unlock their unique vision to showcase the domain of the fashion world through their artwork.
Accepted categories include painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, artist books, ceramics, stained glass, sculpture, and oversized jewelry defined as fine art. The exhibition does not accept jewelry (as defined as craft), video, film, performance art, installation, or works requiring an external electrical source. Submissions must be the artist's original work. Two-dimensional work must not exceed 8 feet in height and 4 feet in width (including frame). Three-dimensional work must fit a pedestal sized 16 inches x 16 inches or take up no more than 4 feet of gallery floor space. Artwork must arrive gallery ready, ready to hang, and presented professionally. Framed artwork must use black wood or natural wood frames with no color mats and plexi only (no glass).
Entry fee is $35 for one artwork submission, $5 for each additional submission (up to three total). Artists may submit 1–3 images. The juror will select works for display at The Studio Door gallery in San Diego and for an online gallery, allowing more works to be seen beyond the physical gallery limitations. All selected artwork will be included in a national exhibition virtual catalog. A Juror's Award ribbon and certificate will be presented to three works expressing the most imaginative interpretation of the theme. One work will be designated "Best in Show" and used as the cover of the exhibition catalog. Artists will be notified by February 7, 2016. Hand-delivery of artwork is available Sunday, February 28 (Noon–4 PM) or Tuesday, March 1 (10 AM–6 PM). Shipped artwork must be received by February 28, 2016. For online-only selections, artwork delivery is not required. Sales commission is 60% to the artist and 40% to The Studio Door. The Studio Door will mail checks to artists within six weeks after the show closes. Opening reception is March 5, 2016, 6 PM–9 PM.
