About This Call
ENDANGERED is an exhibition of visual art running from August 5-28, 2016, produced by The Studio Door. This is a celebration of artwork which showcases the beauty of endangered and threatened species or habitats. The exhibit will cultivate an appreciation and understanding of the diversity of art inspired by nature. 10% of the proceeds will be gifted to the San Diego Zoo.
Accepted categories include painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, artist book, ceramics, stained glass, sculpture, and oversized jewelry defined as fine art. The exhibition does not accept jewelry (as defined as craft), video, film, performance art, installation, or works requiring an external electrical source. Submissions must be the artist's original work. Two-dimensional work maximum size is 8 feet height by 4 feet width including frame. Three-dimensional work must fit a pedestal sized 16 inches x 16 inches or take up no more than 4 feet of gallery floor space. Artworks must arrive gallery ready, ready to hang, and presented professionally. Framed artwork must use black wood or natural wood frame with no color mats and plexi only (no glass).
The juror is Kristin Nielsen from San Diego Zoo Global. A Juror's Award ribbon and certificate will be presented to three works that express the most imaginative interpretation of the theme. One work will be designated "Best in Show" and will be used as the cover of the exhibition catalog. The juror will select works for display at The Studio Door gallery in San Diego and additional works for the online gallery only. All selected artwork will be included in the national exhibition virtual catalog. Entry deadline is July 5, 2016 at 11:59 PM PST. Entry fee is $35 for one artwork, $5 for each additional artwork (maximum 3 submissions). Artists will be notified by July 12, 2016. Hand-delivery of artwork is available July 31 (Noon-4 PM) or August 2 (10 AM-6 PM). Shipped artwork must be received by July 29, 2016 with prepaid shipping labels required. Artwork pickup is August 30 during gallery hours. Sales split: 55% to artists, 35% to The Studio Door, 10% to wildlife nonprofit. Opening reception is August 6, 2016 from 6 PM-9 PM.
