About This Call
The National Bronze Sculpture Symposium invites four national sculptors to participate in a two-week event in Yellow Springs, Ohio, from October 13-26, 2013. Selected artists will each create three bronze sculptures for installation on a public Sculpture Trail in the downtown area and surrounding region.
Each selected artist receives a commission of $3,000 plus travel reimbursement (up to $600), room and board, and one bronze casting valued at $1,500. Artists must submit three design images with their application. Sculpture No. 1 must be completed by Day 3 of the symposium and will be cast during the event with a public demonstration of the lost-wax process, bronze pour, and finish on Day 14. Sculptures No. 2 and No. 3 must be completed by Day 14 and will be cast off-site after the symposium. Each sculpture is limited to approximately 20 pounds of bronze, including sprues. Artists should have basic knowledge of the bronze lost-wax process.
Selected artists are required to provide a 90-minute visual presentation about their artistic body of work and visit two local schools for similar presentations to students. Work hours are 9AM to 5PM daily, with provided meals and lodging at Antioch College. Artists must provide a certificate of Liability Insurance ($1M each occurrence/$2M aggregate) prior to the event. Arrival is Saturday, October 12, 2013; departure is Sunday, October 27, 2013. Submit applications through CaFE at www.callforentry.org with 6-12 images of work samples.
