Nashville Public Library Courtyard Sculpture Project

The Nashville Public Library is seeking a visionary sculptor to create large-scale artwork(s) for its historic courtyard as part of a comprehensive restoration project. The sculpture(s) should complement the restored fountain and transform the courtyard into a dynamic cultural destination. The ultimate goal is for the sculpture(s) to provide shading opportunities, with the possibility that climbing plant material may be incorporated depending on the artist's vision and creativity.

The sculpture is envisioned as a piece that resonates with themes of storytelling and literature, inviting contemplation and connection among visitors. Artists may propose more than one sculpture. There are 8 designated areas in the courtyard where sculptures can be installed. Sculptures may be up to 15 feet tall. The selected artist will contribute to Nashville's cultural landscape and enhance both the physical environment and the spiritual and cultural experience of library visitors.

Applications must include: a detailed description addressing artistic concept, design, location(s), materials, lighting integration, maintenance and durability, and timeline; 5-15 images of completed artworks from the past five years demonstrating capability for outdoor durability; a current resume (maximum 2 pages); links to online portfolio/social media if available; and a total budget proposal including all costs for creation and installation (artist fees, materials, travel, labor, insurance, design, fabrication, transportation, structural engineering, and installation). Structural engineering design may be required depending on artwork type, with costs borne by the artist. The call is open to professional artists and artist teams over 18 years old, internationally.
