Narrative and Illusion

"Narrative and Illusion" is an open juried national exhibition presented by Art League Rhode Island at The VETS Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island. The exhibition runs from July 12, 2019 to September 6, 2019 and seeks 2D and 3D fine artworks that illustrate similarities in art and film through narrative storytelling, world building, and other tropes founded on illusion and escapism. The exhibition coincides with the Rhode Island International Film Festival.

Eligibility is open to any artist 18 years or older. The entry fee is $25 for up to 3 entries (free for Art League Rhode Island members). Submissions must include 1-3 images of original work. All 2D and 3D media are eligible except video. Artwork must be exhibition ready with appropriate hardware and no saw-tooth hangers or clips. Maximum size is 36" wide by 48" high including frame. 3D work must have a footprint of 24" x 24" or less and weigh no more than 35 lbs. Work must be appropriate for viewers of all ages and cannot contain overt nudity, sexually explicit content, profanity, or controversial political statements. Artwork previously exhibited with ALRI is not permitted.

Artwork can be delivered in person on July 8-9, 2019 or shipped via UPS (subject to a $15 storage and handling fee). The reception and awards ceremony is July 17, 2019. Artwork pickup is September 9-10, 2019. Awards are: 1st Prize $300, 2nd Prize $200, 3rd Prize $100. Jurors are a panel of Rhode Island International Film Festival and Art League Rhode Island organizers. Notification of acceptance will be sent by June 10, 2019. Sales are encouraged; ALRI takes a 30% commission from members and 40% from non-members.
