Napa Valley Open Studios 2009

All Napa County visual artists are invited to submit to the jury for Napa Valley Open Studios 2009 (NVOS). The mission of NVOS is to promote Napa Valley art through the opening of creative spaces across the county, to educate and inspire the community about Napa Valley art, and to support the livelihoods of working artists. The event takes place September 19-20 and 26-27, 2009.

The jury panel is comprised of five professionals working in the field of visual art. Each juror works outside Napa County and the entire jury process is blind. The jury will evaluate four images and an artist statement (maximum 1,000 characters) from each artist to determine if the body of work meets the following criteria: indicates consistent technical proficiency with the medium; demonstrates understanding of formal elements of art; reflects a coherent individual style and originality; and demonstrates a level of professional presentation expected in a gallery setting. Jury results will be emailed to all artists on March 9. All jury decisions are final, and the jury will not provide written or verbal critique.

Artists are eligible to participate if: your work is accepted by the jury; you have a residence and/or studio in Napa County; you have or have access to a creative space within Napa County available for public visits; you are a working artist creating original art; you have a working email address checked at least weekly; you have paid your $300 or $500 entry fee upon jury acceptance; and you are a current member of Arts Council Napa Valley. Basic artist membership is $25 annually; Registered Artist membership (which includes a full listing and webpage on the online Artist Registry) is $50 annually.
